Data center cooling problems were often, in the past, remedied with ordering and installing an additional CRAC unit. In today’s superheated IT equipment environment, an additional CRAC unit installation my not singularly nor adequately cure the problem. Directing the cold air to and hot air away from the hot spots is the key. Data center cooling problems, today, are more favorably resolved by implementation of a variety of solutions including:
- improved distribution of the heat loads
- partial cabinet loads
- creating additional space in aisles or elsewhere
- installation of a ducted return system and/or
- CRAC installation with ducting to the hot spots. If those solutions do not work, then perhaps high-density cooling is the answer.
This may include in-row cooling, or supplemental cooling or heat rejection above the racks. Together with redesign possibilities there are products available that provide excellent solutions. Contact CS/TMI to find out which solution is right for your data center.
