Getting Started

Facility Assessment Facility Concept Planning (FCP)

CS/TMI provides comprehensive services to our clients to support the planning, design, construction, project management and future operation of the mission-critical facilities. Typically our professional services commence with an engagement to perform either a Facility Assessment, for an existing facility, or alternatively, a Facility Concept Plan, for a planned new, expanded or retrofitted facility. The Facility Assessment and Facility Concept Plan, each completed in about 4 weeks, are presented to the management team together with a bound hard copy report of the findings, recommended solutions and costs. Our services are described below:

Facility Assessment
A Facility Assessment is typically performed to identify:
  • problems and recommend solutions
  • operating risks or weaknesses in advance of problems and recommend solutions
  • opportunities to gain data center efficiencies and
  • facility upgrade and expansion alternatives
CS/TMI Facility Assessments, according to our clients, offer an excellent and immediate payback by improving the efficiency, resiliency, reliability and security of the overall operation.

With today's ever increasing energy requirements, consumption and concerns, the Facility Assessment is an excellent tool to tackle many issues. For example, the Facility Assessment can highlight practical green initiatives for improving the overall energy efficiency of the data center.

Our progressive levels of Facility Assessments include:
  • High Level Assessment – Includes performing a visual on-site inspection and review of the data center by CS/TMI professionals with identification of immediate or future concerns. The assessment includes written description of the observations, presentation of the solutions and pricing information.

  • Detailed Assessment – Includes performing visual on-site inspections and review of the data center with completion of a series of detailed inspections by CS/TMI technical professionals. Data is collected and calculations are prepared and evaluated against industry benchmarks and metrics. The assessment includes written description of the observations, presentation of the solutions and pricing information.
Questions to ask yourself about your existing data center:
  • How old is your data center?
  • Any recent or planned upgrades?
  • Are there any known or perceived limitations with the power or cooling system infrastructure?
  • Have you experienced any recent problems? (i.e. outages)
  • Do you maintain all support systems regularly and without disruption?
  • Has your facility been audited in the last 3 years by an objective third party expert to assess performance towards long-term objectives?

Facility Concept Planning (FCP)
Conceptual planning services, regardless of the type, size or complexity of the project identifies the scope of work for a proposed data center project. CS/TMI will meet with IT and facilities personnel to discuss the requirements, strategic goals and to aid in the concept design of the facility. All systems associated with the data center, including walls, ceilings, flooring, fire protection, mechanical, emergency power, UPS systems, and other systems will be discussed and agreed upon. CS/TMI is adept at listening to our clients and teaming with them to determine a practical and proven approach to facility design, one which satisfies business requirements, budget constraints and provides the required operating protections.

The FCP includes: an equipment floor plan, single line, electrical diagram, scope of work statement, budget and project schedule with milestones. The FCP becomes the roadmap to the new data center facility.

Questions to ask yourself if you are considering relocation or design build of a new data center facility:
  • Do you have plans to relocate/migrate your facility within the next 2-3 years?
  • Has the site or building selection criteria been developed for your data center?
  • Have you selected a building or property location?
  • Have the new data center requirements been defined for management approval including floor plan, scope of work, budget and schedule?
  • Do you have a team member on-board with data center planning and design expertise?
If your answers to any of the above questions fall short of your preferred outcome then consider engagement of CS/TMI. You will find our thorough approach to be an excellent investment and valuable guide to a range of excellent cost-effective and proven solutions fit to your unique facility environment.
