One of the biggest and on-going concerns looming in your data center stems from the available power in your electrical room and the ability to handle future equipment loads on the floor. Data Center power requirements rated at 150 watts per square foot or even twice that are, to be sure, massive and continue to trend upward. One needs to understand the available power but also needs to be able to assess the electrical capacity of the support systems including for example, the switch gear, generator, or utility transformer, to handle additional equipment loads. Some limited information may be provided by depressing buttons on your PDU or UPS system, however, this information is best provided by an electrical engineer with specialty in data centers. An electrical engineer will identify all electrical loads on the devices upstream from the electrical room as well as provide you with accurate information on your options including what can and what cannot be done.
